As part of the celebrations marking the 300th anniversary of the death of Sir John Vanbrugh, a programme of events will take place throughout 2026 to commemorate the life and legacy of one of Britain's greatest architects. This anniversary has particular significance for Kimbolton, where Vanbrugh transformed Kimbolton Castle during its Great Rebuilding, creating one of the county's most important historic buildings and leaving a lasting architectural legacy.

Purple Horizons is delighted to offer a rare opportunity to discover The Secrets of Kimbolton Castle.

Led by Andrew Bamford, Castle Curator, this exclusive event will take place in the magnificent State Rooms of Kimbolton Castle. Andrew will place Kimbolton into its national historical context, tracing its remarkable journey from a fortified manor house to its transformation under the celebrated architect Sir John Vanbrugh.

Bringing history to life, Andrew will explore the stories of some of the famous—and sometimes infamous—figures who shaped Kimbolton's history, including Edward Montagu and Sir John Popham, and explain how their lives intertwined with the wider story of Britain.
The evening will include a guided tour of the Castle and its magnificent State Rooms. Subject to weather conditions, there will also be an opportunity to enjoy a tour of the exterior of the Castle, highlighting some of Vanbrugh's most significant architectural features.
The event will begin at 6.30 pm and will last approximately 90 minutes.

Tickets are limited to just 30 places, making this a unique opportunity to experience one of Kimbolton's most remarkable historic buildings with expert commentary from its Curator.
