Paint it Purple - Henri Matisse

We were delighted to host our latest Paint It Purple evening on Wednesday, 25th February at The Citizens Hub in St Neots, in aid of Papworth Trust and Ormiston Families. As you will recall, Paint It Purple is a series of events celebrating art, creativity, and the stories behind some of the world’s most iconic paintings.

During the evening, we focused on the life and work of Henri Matisse (1869–1954), one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Guests learned about Matisse’s bold use of colour, expressive shapes, and decorative pattern, and how his work was inspired by nature, music, interiors, and everyday life.

Lisa Bamford, who has over 30 years’ experience teaching Art, Photography, and Art History, shared her knowledge of Matisse in a talk at the start of the evening.

Guests were then invited to create their own artwork, either by interpreting Matisse’s works (Open Window, Collioure 1905; Interior with Goldfish Bowl 1914; The Window 1916; and Interior with Egyptian Curtain 1948) or by exploring alternative colour palettes and subjects inspired by his distinctive style.

We were also delighted to welcome Lauren Keating, a talented local artist, who provided guidance and support throughout, ensuring the session was accessible and enjoyable for all abilities. All materials were provided, and every guest took home their own piece of artwork.

Ormiston Families have used the funds across their organisation, where it is needed the most. These funds have made a vital difference to them continuing to reach children and their families, at a time they need it the most.

We are pleased to share that the event raised £400 for Papworth Trust and Ormiston Families.
