Paint it Purple

Purple Horizons were delighted to introduce Paint it Purple – a new series of evening events celebrating art, creativity, and the stories behind some of the world’s most iconic paintings on Wednesday, 1st October.

It focused on the life and work of Vincent van Gogh and all who attended gained insight into Van Gogh’s remarkable career, his artistic influences, and the inspiration behind his celebrated masterpieces, The Starry Night and his sunflowers paintings.

Lisa Bamford, who has over 30 years teaching experience in Art, Photography and Art History, shared her knowledge on Van Gogh during a 20 minute talk at the start of the evening. Guests then created their own artwork, either by interpreting The Starry Night/Sunflowers directly or by exploring alternative colour palettes and subjects inspired by Van Gogh’s style – for example, painting a green background or a vase of sunflowers in striking blues.

A talented and experienced artist, Lauren Keating, was there to provide guidance, ensuring the session was accessible and enjoyable for all abilities.

All funds raised from Paint it Purple benefitted Papworth Trust and Ormiston Families to be used across the organisation, where it is needed the most. These funds have made a vital difference to them continuing to reach children and their families, at a time they need it the most.

We are delighted our event raised £400 for these two worthy causes.
